Michelbook has a very interesting and storied
history. The
tradition created from the love of golf, fellowship,
and the vision of so many of our past and present
Members is held dear to us.
We in management are always amazed at
how Michelbook has created such a special place
in so many people’s hearts.
We are truly a home away from home for
people desiring a club that they can be proud
of.

course since the 1930’s when the Yamhill Golf
and Country Club, located between McMinnville
and Lafayette, was abandoned as a result of the
Great Depression. Following World War II,
a group of local golfers tried to buy Riverwood
Golf Club from the Brainerd brothers, but without
success. In the late 50’s, a similar effort
was made to acquire the Ernie Blair-Ed Spiller
properties as a site, but again without success. |

By 1960, Francis Michelbook had discontinued
operating his dairy at the edge of town and
in 1960 he was willing to discuss the sale of
his farm for a golf course site. After
generally agreeing on terms, we took Captain
Michelbook on tours of courses, new and old,
in northwestern Oregon to demonstrate that this
would be a proper use of his land.
Finally, on February
2, 1962, we obtained a one year option to purchase
the Michelbook property. It re-acquired

the golf course “shall perpetually bear
the family name of the First Parties”, Michelbook.”
