  • 2024 Junior Summer Golf Clinic
    • 2024 Junior Summer Golf Program Details

As summer is upon us, we would like to provide you with Junior Golf information to help with your family’s summer event planning… Our Junior Golf Program will be conducted on Wednesday afternoons beginning June 26th, finishing on August 28th, and is designed for juniors between the ages of 8 and 17. Cost for the program is $150 for a junior of a current Michelbook member in good standing with the club. The rate for a junior whose family is not a member at Michelbook will be $225. The fees will include: 8 clinic days with Michelbook’s golf professional staff plus an entry into the Junior Program Championship and a Michelbook Junior Golf 2024 polo style shirt.

      Clinic Times

Each Wednesday throughout the program we focus on chipping, putting, and the full swing. We also cover a multitude of topics including safety, sun protection, golf course etiquette, and pace of play. Our program will be conducted similar to last year. We will have small groups for instruction then unlimited play following instruction if accompanied by an adult or, have permission from the instructors to play unaccompanied. We will divide the juniors into groups of 15 players or less who will meet for 45 minutes of instruction each week (chipping group/putting group/full swing group). We will have 3 stations- the short game practice area for chipping instruction, the practice putting green for putting instruction and putting contests, and the range deck for full swing instruction. We will have one-third of the group at each station for approximately 10-15 minutes. Clinics will take place on Wednesday afternoons beginning June 26th and ending August 28th with the Junior Program Championship at 4:30pm (arrival time will be 4:00pm). Clinic times will be 4:30pm, 5:30pm, and 6:30pm.

      On Course

Following instruction, juniors have the option to play the golf course if accompanied by an adult volunteer. Juniors planning to play need to check in with the golf shop prior to play (and following the clinic). Juniors will be able to play 1 to 9 holes (depending on skill level and guardian/volunteer availability). At this time, we will ask parents/grandparents/guardians to volunteer to be walkers for those groups.

      Parent/guardian Walkers

In order for the playing portion of the program to be successful, we need the help of parent and grandparent volunteers. Volunteers ensure our program runs in a safe and timely manner. We may need several volunteers each week to accompany the junior groups on the course to help with pace of play and to ensure a safe playing experience. The Intro groups (beginners) will require at least one adult walker. If an Intro group does not have an adult walker to accompany them on the course, they will not be able to play due to safety concerns.

      Dress Code

Parents, guardians, volunteers, and juniors should adhere to the Michelbook dress code when they are at the club for junior golf. For men and boys this means wearing a collared shirt with neat shorts or pants. For women and girls, shorts and skorts must be to the mid-thigh in length. Sleeveless tops must have a collar for women and girls. Running shorts and tights are not acceptable attire for the golf course. Additionally, caps must be worn in the conventional manner (not reversed). Please call the golf shop if you have any questions regarding the dress code, (503) 472-2129 Ext. 6.

      Golf Clubs

All children are encouraged to bring their own clubs, as Michelbook has a limited number of junior clubs (no sets). If you are interested in ordering a set of clubs, please come into the pro shop and one of the staff members will be happy to assist you. Golf club shipments take approximately fourteen days.

      Junior Program Championship

This year we will finish off the Junior Golf Program with the Junior Program Championship. All Junior Golf participants are welcome to enter into this event. The entry fee is included in the program fee. This year, the Junior Program Championship with be held on August 28th. We would like competitors and volunteers here by 4:00pm and championship play will begin around 4:30pm or as soon as all players are ready to go out on the course. We will need parent volunteers to walk with the groups or operate power carts during the Junior Program Championship so please let us know if you are available and willing to volunteer- thanks! Parent volunteers are responsible for score keeping and maintaining pace of play.

      Junior Golf Awards Banquet

Following the completion of the Junior Club Championship, there will be an awards ceremony and BBQ on August 28th beginning at, or around, 6:00pm. We will present the Club Championship awards to the winners of each golf division and give out other prizes during the award ceremony following play. We will have limited food offerings available.
