  • 2018 Junior Golf Clinics and Program
    • The Details

As the summer is quickly approaching, we wanted to make Junior Golf information available. We know many parents have already started organizing summer plans so hopefully this information can help with that.

Our junior program meets on Wednesday afternoons (starting June 28th and finishing on August 23rd) and is designed for juniors between the ages of 8 and 17. Cost for the program is $120 for a junior of a current Michelbook member in good standing with the club. The rate for a junior whose family is not a member at Michelbook will be $150. The fees will include: An Assessment Day, 7 clinic days with Michelbook’s head professional Matt Marshall, and entry into the Junior Program Championship.

Assessment Day:  On Sunday, June 25th we will have an assessment day. All juniors interested in the golf program, and their families, are invited to attend. During this event all junior golf participants will have a personal assessment on the range from our experienced Professional golf staff. Juniors will be placed in the 18 hole, 9 hole, or Intro groups depending on their ability.

Clinic Times:  Each Wednesday throughout the program we focus on a specific topic during the clinic times. We cover a multitude of topics from etiquette, the basic set up and swing, to short game just to give a few examples.

      • 18 Hole Group- 1:30 pm to 2:15 pm (Tee Times start at 2:30)
      • 9 Hole Group- 2:30 pm to 3:15 pm (Tee Times start at 3:30)
      • Intro Group- 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm

Tee Times:  Following clinic times, the 18 hole and the 9 hole juniors have the option to play. Juniors planning on playing need to register with the golf shop in advance of the clinic. The Intro group will be able to play 3 to 4 holes after their fourth clinic. Starting August 2nd the Intro group will play after their clinic time. At that time, we will be asking parents or grandparents to volunteer to be walkers for those groups.

Parent Walkers:  In order for the playing portion of the program to be successful, we need the help of parent and grandparent volunteers. Volunteering ensures our program runs in a safe and timely manner. We will need several volunteers each week to act as walking scorers and to help with pace of play. The Intro groups require a parent walker. If an Intro group does not have a parent walker, they will not be able to play due to safety concerns.

Make-up Clinics:  The summer is a very busy for most families and we understand if juniors are unable to attend the program every week. Juniors that cannot make every clinic are invited to receive instruction time on our make-up days: Monday, July 10th and Monday, August 7th. The make-up clinics go from 3:30 to 5:00 pm. No golf is included in this portion, only instruction.

Dress Code:  Parents, volunteers, and juniors should adhere to the Michelbook dress code when they are at the club for junior golf. For men and boys this means wearing a collared shirt with neat shorts or pants. For women and girls, shorts and skorts must be to the mid-thigh in length. Sleeveless tops must have a collar for women and girls. Running shorts and tights are not acceptable attire for the golf course. Additionally, caps must be worn in the conventional manner (not reversed). Please call the golf shop if you have any questions regarding the dress code, (503) 472-2129.

Golf Clubs:  All children are encouraged to bring their own clubs, as Michelbook has a very limited amount of junior clubs (no sets). If you are interested in ordering a set, the club would be more than happy to do the work for you and get a set ordered. If you are interested, come into the pro shop and one of the staff members will assist you. Ordering clubs usually takes one to two weeks to arrive, so please keep that in mind.

Junior Program Championship:  This year we will finish off the Junior Golf Program with the Junior Program Championship. All Junior Golf participants have free entry into this event. This year, the Junior Program Championship with be held on August 23rd. We will need parent volunteers to walk with the 9 hole and Intro groups during the Junior Program Championship. Parent volunteers are responsible for score keeping and maintaining the pace of play.

Junior Golf Awards Banquet:  Following the completion of the Junior Club Championship, there will be an awards ceremony and BBQ on August 23rd. All family members are invited to attend this dinner event. We will present the Club Championship trophies to the winners of each golf division and give out other raffle prizes during the banquet.

Junior Golf Registration:  Registration for the Junior Golf Program will be open from May 12th to June 25th.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email our Golf Professional, Luc Miller, at Lucasm@michelbook.com, or call the shop at (503) 472-2129 ext. 106
